It was a busy weekend of racing for Efficient Endurance athletes, with events spanning open-water swimming, triathlon, and road running. From handling race-day setbacks to managing warm conditions, the results demonstrated the value of solid preparation, sensible pacing, and resilience.
Here is how the athletes performed across their respective events.
Dorney Lake Triathlon: Chloe’s Return to Triathlon

After a difficult winter and spring, Chloe lined up at Dorney Lake for her first triathlon in over a year.
Her race hit an immediate test when she crashed into a barrier in the first 100 metres of the bike leg. Rather than letting the incident derail her day, Chloe remounted, refocused, and built momentum as the race went on, progressing stronger through each discipline. It was a clear display of composure and mental toughness after a long period away from competition.
Oceanwalker 3K: Jo’s Open Water Performance

In Lincolnshire, Jo took on the Oceanwalker 3K open-water swim. Long-distance swimming requires steady pacing, relaxed breathing, and clear navigation.
Jo executed her swim comfortably, finishing strong and taking the 3,000-metre distance in her stride. With this benchmark handled cleanly, she is well prepared to look toward longer distances in her upcoming block.
Great Yarmouth Half Marathon: Adapting to the Heat

Sunday brought high temperatures for the Great Yarmouth Half Marathon, where a 10:00 am start time meant both Ruth C and Laura had to manage heat stress alongside race pacing.
- Ruth C embraced the challenging conditions and ran a superb race, crossing the finish line in 1:46:00 to take the County Champion title.
- Laura found the heat tough, but stuck to her task disciplinedly to finish in 1:56:00. Despite the warmth working against fast times, this was Laura’s third-fastest half marathon ever and only a few minutes off her overall personal best.
Both runners showed smart effort management in conditions that easily catch unprepared athletes out.

Team Drills Session & Social
Alongside the weekend’s racing, we hosted a group run-drills session and social BBQ on Saturday. Combining practical technical work with time to catch up off the course is a key part of how our athlete community stays connected and supported.

Practical Takeaways for Your Training
Every race weekend provides lessons that apply to long-term endurance preparation:
- Control your response to setbacks: Misfortune happens on race day. Chloe’s ability to reset after an early crash shows why mental flexibility is just as important as physical fitness.
- Respect the environment: High temperatures demand a sensible adjustment in pace and effort. Ruth and Laura managed their pacing to secure strong results without over-reaching early.
- Use events as benchmarks: Completing a target distance with confidence—as Jo did in the water—provides clear feedback that you are ready to step up to the next milestone.
