A successful weekend of racing is rarely defined by perfect conditions. Instead, it is measured by how athletes adapt to unexpected challenges, execute their plans, and use their results to inform future preparation. This past weekend, three Efficient Endurance athletes faced distinct challenges across open-water swimming and draft-legal triathlon, delivering strong performances and clear feedback for their upcoming training.
Karina: Managing Severe Conditions at The 12K Chillswim event at Ullswater

Karina undertook the Ullswater open-water swim on Saturday under highly challenging conditions. High winds created difficult water from the second mile onward. After Karina completed six miles, safety officials directed her from the water to bypass an unsafe section, transferring her 800 meters ahead to a more sheltered part of the course.
While the safety intervention meant she could not officially complete the full designated distance, she successfully covered 11.2 kilometers in severe environments. In our post-swim debrief, Karina focused on the practical value of the experience. Navigating these extreme conditions has increased her confidence and reinforced her commitment to targeting demanding long-distance events in the future.
Phil: National Championship Podium Despite Injury
Phil returned to competitive racing at Dorney Lake for the draft-legal Sprint Triathlon, which doubled as the British National Championship. This event followed a structured period of rehabilitation to address a torn shoulder muscle.
Phil secured second place in Britain within his category, a performance that qualifies him for the World Sprint Championships next year. While the podium finish represents a strong return to form, the post-race analysis highlighted a specific priority for his next training block. To compete for the top position next season, our programming will focus on improving his swim performance to ensure he exits the water closer to the front of the field.
Izzy: A First international Qualification

Izzy competed in her first draft-legal event at the Dorney Lake Sprint Triathlon. Transitioning to draft-legal racing introduces distinct tactical and technical demands, particularly regarding group riding.
Izzy finished 7th in the junior category and placed 1st in her Great Britain qualifying age group, securing her place on the international team for the first time. During our post-race review, we identified clear opportunities for progression. While Izzy managed her position comfortably within the straight sections of the bike pack, she noted a lack of confidence when cornering at speed. This gives us a concrete skill to develop in training to build her technical proficiency for future team events.
