Jo’s Efficient Endurance Story

Jo came to me at the end of 2024 looking for help as her motivation had dropped off and she felt she was going backwards.

She did her last Tri in October 2024 and had really lost motivation and desire to train, but really wanted to challenge herself in 2025. We put a coaching plan together that first focused on consistency.

Jo loved the structure and her primary motivation initially was to complete everything that I set her… and damn did I try to break that target! 😅

Early in the year I persuaded Jo to enter the Norwich Sprint tri. It was a local event and nothing that wasn’t going to be above what she was capable of, but open water was a big mental block having only learnt to swim a couple of years previously with some of my 1:1 swim sessions. She went on to complete the event with very little trouble…

I then had the harder task of persuading her that she could step up to the standard distance. I eventually got her to enter the Dorney Standard Distance event in September. Giving us 2 months to train for it.

In this time Jo struggled with some medical issues which were being rectified, but didn’t lose desire to complete the challenge that we had set.

During the event she didn’t just go on to complete it. She did it in under 3 hours, which was a huge milestone for her.

This weekend, Jo is participating in the Outlaw Nottingham Middle Distance Tri. Again stepping up out of her comfort zone. But yet again she will deliver what she never thought she could.

On a side note, she also managed (whilst working full time) to complete over 400 training sessions last year. (I told you I tried to break her streak!)

We keep pushing on, just need to make the bike ‘picnics’ a bit less like a picnic!
